Hi hi my loves
Who else is feeling a litttttle bit stressed this month? Or every month.. ?
I feel like there are a lot of times when keeping a workout routine can get tough, ( holidays clearly make it fifty times harder ) right?
I mean, it can be a lot.
& better yet, I find it crazy easy to slack off on workouts when I’m super busy. Like sitting on my yoga mat staring at my to-do-list on my phone type of slacking.
I was about to workout at home a few days ago but got completely caught up in Christmas shopping online..
So I’ve been trying to fit some spin and barre classes into my schedule to make sure I’m getting my butt kicked.
I love love love at home workouts. I have some quick, efficient ones up here. But sometimes I just need a minute ( or hour ) to really unwind and listen to someone else talk instead of my own mind. It basically shuts off my brain for a bit. Know what I mean?
BUT it can definitely feel overwhelming to fit ANYTHING into your schedule sometimes.
I felt this way a few weeks ago trying to make sure I was getting enough workouts in.
I was basically all over the place. A hot mess.
I had no plan.
I was running around trying to fit random things into my day and it totally threw me off.
I went to a barre class last minute after work one day and had to go into Athleta next door to buy a new sports bra and shirt to wear to the class because I wasn’t planning on going..
( Not fully complaining about it. )
I went home at the end of the week absolutely drained. Which happens. It’s life.
But it definitely made me realize I needed to figure my ish out.
OKAY so. I do 3 things to keep myself in a routine & unclutter my workout schedule.
Yup, that’s it.
Simple enough, right?
Let’s break it down so we can get that bootay to work!
SET A GOAL
This is HUGE. Having a goal makes the workouts so much easier to do. I wanted to get better at push-ups, so I started recording myself doing them. I would watch them every day to make sure I was making progress. If you have a goal you want to achieve, it almost makes you excited to do the workouts. Whether it’s a date, a time, a skill, whatever. Make it realistic and get after it.
PLAN IT OUT
I’m not a planner. AT ALL. I don’t plan. But you guessed it – I plan my workouts. I have to. It makes me do them, I swear. If I don’t have them planned out, I totally lose track of my day and go on with ‘more important things’ and tell myself I’ll do the workout later, or an extra hard one tomorrow. PLAN.IT.OUT. Write it down. Put it in your phone. Set an alarm. Whatever you have to do. Just have it planned for the week, it’ll be that much easier. & you will feel so much better at the end of the week when you look back and see that you actually stuck with it. Cross them off your calendar when you’re done. IT FEELS REALLY EFFIN’ GOOD.
GET PAST THE FIRST WEEK
Sounds crazy, but it works. Make your workouts a routine. Even if this means making it to a spin class on Tuesday mornings. Or doing an at home workout for 20 minutes. Set the goal, plan it, and then make it past the first week of doing it. Once you realize that this is doable in your schedule, it will become a habit. If you don’t get out of bed and say you’ll start next week, you’ll never actually start. Been there done that. Get past the first week.
Just those three things alone made me whip my butt into a steady workout routine. THAT’S IT. 3 things.
I know it sounds cliche when people say starting is the hardest part, but I swear this is so.true.
Once you start, it becomes a habit.
Make your workouts a priority.
Once you put them into your schedule, you’ll start to plan around them & they won’t be the task that you put off until tomorrow anymore.
Stay balanced and motivated! YOU.CAN.DO.THIS. It’s allllll good.
Any other tips? We all need some motivation sometimes.
