No tan lines here.
Just some good ‘ol self tanner.
I have a huge soft spot for self tanning.
You’ll NEVER catch me in a tanning booth. I can’t accept the shit that it does to your skin. Like, what?
I am even kind of crazy in the summer. I got sun poisoning bad one year and the spots from it have never gone away.
UH no thanks.
I don’t want to be a young, sun-spotted, wrinkly person. You know?
So self tanning? I love it. Like, I really really love it.
You feel better, look better, and IT MAKES YOU LOOK SKINNIER. I swear by this.
Tan your stomach and you’ll automatically lose like 10 fake pounds. Amazing.
I know – too much can be a bit overwhelming.
That’s why I’m writing this.
I’ve used some HORRIBLE self tanners, turned myself fifty shades of orange, had streaks down my legs in the middle of summer. All that shit we love to hate.
I TOTALLY FEEL YOUR PAIN.
The past is the past for a reason.
I think it’s safe to say I’ve come a looooong way. It’s easy, I promise.
& they have so many self tanners you can choose from.
They even have an in-shower one that I’m dying to get my hands on, anyone else try this yet?
Anyway.. it’s simple, it doesn’t smell bad, it goes on easy, it’s a mousse ( or lotion ) so it isn’t being sprayed all over your room, and it works. No bad colors going on.
+ no parabens
+ no sulfates
+ no phthalates
+ natural DHA
It’s not a spray – so you aren’t spraying any chemicals to get into your mouth/eyes/etc.
STRICTLY skin business.
+ Use a glove/mitt
Spend the extra money – it’s so worth it. I’ve mistakenly not used one a few times before and just washed my hands after – then woke up with brown spotted hands. FUN.
+ Exfoliate before
Makes such a difference. You don’t want dry patches of skin because the color basically clings to these areas, not in a good way.. making it way too dark.
+ Don’t wax your eyebrows near the spray tan time
The leftover wax gets in the way. This also happens to me when I put makeup on after I get my eyebrows waxed – one reason I do threading now. It’s like a perfect light shade of skin under your eyebrows. Horrible.
+ Don’t go over your upper lip
Gives me that annoying mustache look.. save yourself the pain.
+ Even if it says you can shower soon – wait.
Wait just a little longer than it says. I normally do mine at night before bed then hop in the shower in the morning for like .2 seconds max. I just rinse, I don’t actually scrub.
+ Have a spray tanning outfit
Be prepared. For what? For it to get on your clothes. Have one outfit you always use after you spray tan while it dries. It makes it easier when you see the tan on your old t-shirt. Don’t be shocked when you look down and see it on the inside of your nice shirt that night, too. If it’s already dried and you’re in your outfit to go out, it’s fine. You’re good – just spreading the love onto your clothes. Yum.
+ Try to have your nails painted before you spray tan
Dead ass. Your nails will turn a tint of yellow/orange if you are using an actual spray.
Have them painted before you go!
+ Put baby powder on your armpits before bed
I’m serious. LOL. I have NO idea why, but this has helped me a bit ( I think? ) with smelling horrible after waking up from a spray tan.
All honesty – I’ve used Salon Bronze spray tan before, which is a legit spray tan gun so makes you feel like a super pro. (It’s only $12.99 & you get crazy tan from it. Like, you just went to the Bahamas for a week type of tan.)
I really did love it, BUT – I’ve read a lot of things lately about spray tanning being bad for you because of the chemicals you are breathing in. So I switched my methods.
That’s why I go with one that’s more natural and doesn’t get in your mouth or anything through the sprays.
The spray was also a shitshow on my boyfriends bathroom floor. I put the towel down thinking I would catch all the spray that would miss my body.. then looked at the wall.
Just be careful if you choose a spray.
ANY tips & tricks are welcomed, as always!
