Hey hey, babes
Me and BA just got back from NYC this Sunday – my favorite place ever.
I can’t express how much I love that city, it’s so.. refreshing?
Some would call me an idiot because it definitely smells bad ( at times ) but it’s just the best fucking wake up call every single time you go there.
I swear to God it like shakes your body awake the second you step foot in that city.
I lived there during college ( I went to NYU ) and it was a major game changer in my life.
+ I actually hated it for the first month and a half.
+ I cried every single day. No lie. I called my mom one time telling her I had to go food shopping but I was afraid to walk back with the bags.
+ I could’t sleep – noise.all.the.time.
+ People walked into me in the streets like it was their day job – no shame. Got the shoulders hard.
+ Heels.. HOW? Cobblestone is everywhere and it’s SO fast paced.
+ The subway? Not a chance. Literally. No.
+ I was discouraged by how many restaurants/places/things were ( still are ) involved in the city. I felt like I knew nothing.
+ No one knew me? You walk the streets with so many people and no one cares that you’re there. Can we talk about being a nobody?
+ Three months in, I was completely head over heels for the city.
+ I basically got an arm workout from shopping. I packed as many grocery bags on my arms as I could and walked back.
+ I slept like a baby with the sound of cars & beeping outside my window.
+ Walking faster & adapting to a fast paced lifestyle made me more energized.. alive.
+ Heels? Yes. You learn to run in those damn things, cobblestone or not. That city taught me how to up my heel game HARD.
+ The subway? I got lost and got back on. I think it’s good to experience new ways of life. It broke me out of my comfort zone.
+ I’m intrigued by all the places in that city and not knowing them. I visit a new restaurant every time I go back, even after living there.
+ No one knows me? You walk the streets with so many people and no one cares that you’re there. Can we talk about therapeutic?
+ It made me grow the ‘ef up. In every aspect of life.
Now that I gave you my mini scoop on why you should just basically get up and move to NYC like, tomorrow..
Let me give you the scoop on my absolute favorite spots to visit when I go back incase you choose a simple, quick weekend trip instead.
Totally get it.
Big move, big move.
SO, it can be totally overwhelming with all of the places to eat, drink, and see there.
I could give you about fifty thousand places to go visit that I love.
Instead ( thankfully, huh? ) I broke it down.
& better yet – I’m putting it in order for you.
I know. So much FUN STUFF.
From the hotel, to coffee, to brunch, to cupcakes ( needed ), to dinner, to the bar.
+ MAJOR REALNESS:
I took these pictures all on my phone, kept them the color scheme that they came out as, and uploaded them. It gives you a better feel of the vibes that I’m talking about at these places.
+ ACE HOTEL
You don’t even have to stay here. Just going to the coffee shop and walking through their lobby is enough. But staying here is a huge plus, obviously.
The design and layout is awesome. They make it really chic with quotes on the stairs, doors when you leave, etc. Just all around.. cool.
The vibe is really low key with darker lighting to make it a bit more calming. It isn’t one of those super bright, ‘run around like crazy’ hotels.
The lobby – It has a photo booth. Can we just stop there? Like an old fashioned, fun photo booth.
It has the comfiest, coziest couches where you can sit and order some food or drinks. So casual and low key. The vibes the vibes the vibes.
The rooms – They have options from bunk beds ( yup ), mini, small, medium, large, double, and loft suite. Bunk beds? Can we just take a minute. It’s the coolest hotel. Ever.
You can check them out online to get the real scoop -> ACE HOTEL
+ STUMPTOWN COFFEE ROASTERS
They are located at the end of the lobby in ace hotel. Win win.
They have options – that are really really good. & the coffee is strong. No watered down shit.
The line is usually long ( it’s New York ) but I really like this place because you can go back into the lobby of the hotel and chill out for a minute with your coffee on the couches.
( They also sell black charcoal lemonade in their fridge if you’re lucky and it isn’t gone for the day, if you’re into that weird stuff like I am. )
( on the couches after ordering – so comfy and laid back! )
+ THE SMITH
( for brunch )
Brunch. So New York. I know.
I could get really deep about this place.
They have multiple locations, super fun atmosphere, and amazing food. Like, to die for kind of food.
The service is great, the restaurant for brunch is typically loud and fun. It’s very upbeat.
The best part about The Smith? You get a lotttt of food with your order. I’m serious. It isn’t one of those places where you order avocado toast and you get a half of a half of an avocado slice on your one piece of toast.
No. You get the real deal here. They do NOT skimp you out on your food.
& their Bloody Mary’s are just perfect.
They have a photo booth ( again ) in their bathrooms which is super fun. You get drunk off mimosa’s and go in there with your friends. Always a good time.
This past weekend I went to the NoMad location – right after coffee at Stumptown. About a 3 minute walk?
+ BAKED BY MELISSA
Mini cupcakes. Where can you go wrong?
These are the perfect gift to bring back to someone, perfect gift to send to someone, perfect gift for yourself. They are SO.GOOD.
There are multiple flavors. From peanut butter & jelly, to cinnamon bun, to.. chocolate chip pancake? They even have a mini cereal muffin with fruity pebbles in it. Like, hi.
They are tiny bite sized cupcakes so you can eat a few and feel totally fine. It isn’t like shoving your face with a huge piece of cake.
And it is the cutest shop. Just a simple bright, clean shop with mini cupcakes!
You can also order them online – they have packages for birthdays and what not.
V-DAY is coming up!
+ THE MEATBALL SHOP
My favorite dinner spot.
It’s basically all meatballs. And like, every kind. You can even get a veggie one.
The vibe – It’s a semi-dark, chill, small restaurant. You aren’t surrounded by craziness. It’s super cute and really low-key but they are busy, so you aren’t sitting there in the dark alone. It’s the perfect date spot.
You get a menu and a marker, and you check off what you want to order and hand it to the waiter. You can mix & match meatballs, sauces, veggies, sides, etc.
The food – AMAZING, duh. I mean, you get meatballs. For ex: I got veggie meatballs, pesto sauce, and spinach on the side. It was just enough food and DELICIOUS.
Dessert – Don’t get me started. They have ice cream cookie sandwiches that you choose from. AND – you get to pick which cookie ( you can mix & match the top and bottom ) and what kind of ice cream you want. And it’s huge. Enough to spilt. UGH. YES.
They also have multiple locations in NYC – The Meatball Shop
+ 230 FIFTH ROOFTOP BAR
This is a major go-to if you want to see a good view in NYC.
It’s a heated rooftop bar, they give you robes if it’s chilly out ( yes, please ), and the view is absolutely stunning. You look right at the Empire State Building.
It’s loud and fun, great food if you want to sit down and have a quick bite, and the drinks are good.
They have ‘iglooos’ in the winter, umbrellas if it’s raining, and seats all around that you can chill out at.
It’s a really simple place to grab a drink and see a great view if you aren’t in the city much.
Check the dress code on their site – 230 Fifth
TIP: check out my white shoe guide if you plan on going to NYC for a trip. I wore the Stan Smiths & Steve Maddens from that guide during the days when I was just walking around, super cute and easy!
Let me know if you guys have any other places you love or if you try any of these!
Love love hearing from you, as always.
