YOU GUYS ASKED FOR IT!
A purse snack post – YES.
Like, speak to meeee.
I’m SO stoked that people asked about what type of snacks I’ve been hiding away in my huge ass purse (I could probably fit in the thing, honestly) that I carry around all day long.
Don’t you worry – the pro snack hoarder herself has you covered.
My backpack in middle school (and high school….) was mostly all snacks. No lie. The thing would be HUGE from ziplock baggies full of random snacks. My mom used to be perplexed at the amount of baggies I would go through.
Luckily, I’ve grown and figured out that containers (BPA free, obv.) are a thing, and I’m obsessed. I have a cabinet strictly for containers. I feel like I need every size and shape, you know? For certain types of foods. Teeny tiny ones for dressings, a little bigger for nuts, a litttttle bigger for fruits, etc. The list goes on, and on, and on..
I am all about the ‘fake it ’till you make it’ food life. I am NOT one to be in the kitchen all day long. It just isn’t for me. Not that I don’t love cooking or baking every once in a while, I totally do. I just don’t have it in me to spend an entire Sunday prepping my meals.
I’m more of a two-second coconut quinoa type of girl.
Remember – prepping and planning without driving yourself batshit ? I named a few snacks that my purse always has in that post. So, let’s break that down.
I always say that I never know what I’ll be in the mood for at 1pm tomorrow. I need, and I mean need, to have some sort of quick eats with me that I can snack on for whatever I’m in the mood for.
Yes, this means I have variety.. always.
I break it down into categories.. I told you this was legit:
+ SWEET + SALTY: I always have some sort of ‘sweet’ thing in my purse. (trail mix, almond butter, or RXBARS, etc.)
+ HEALTH CRAZED: Obviously, I keep my snacks healthy. I don’t want to be waking up feeling.. well.. a bit fluffier than yesterday. (almonds, a banana, kale chips, celery sticks, etc.)
I never have all sweet or all greens. And by sweet, I don’t mean Mini Chips Ahoy (glory days). I keep it healthy, always. I just make sure there are some options that will satisfy my sweet tooth. Usually, a RXBAR does the trick and it’s all awesome, healthy ingredients.
But some of you may know by now.. I’m all about balance. I will never completely eliminate a ‘sweet tooth craving’ from my diet because then I’ll just splurge later on and totally throw myself off.
I simply find options that are better.
Kale chips are a major go-to for me. They satisfy a salty craving in a very healthy way. They’re also one of those foods you can snack on when you just need something and they won’t throw you over the edge.
I love, love, love flavored almonds. They are a GREAT snack that will fill you up and reduce hunger with just a handful! They contain healthy fats, fiber, and protein. I obsess over the coconut ones because they basically taste like candy, so they satisfy a lot of cravings.
UNSALTED DRY ROASTED ALMONDS are always a go-to as well!
I don’t leave the house without a banana in my bag. I remember when I first started dating BA he used to always ask why I had a banana with me. But honestly, if you’re traveling or just on the go, you need to have one. It’s the perfect snack to hold you over and obviously so easily packable.
They contain antioxidants, nutrients, potassium, and fiber!
I also like to do berries or grapes in a small container, just about a handful. You can also get NAVITAS NATURALS berries – they’re a great snack (superfruit) already packed up!
Obviously! I’m a nut butter addict. I love Justin’s almond butter packets. They are the perfect size, and so easy squeezable onto a banana or other snack while on the go! I buy a handful of packets and keep them in my bag for.. emergencies.
These things are a major must have in your bags. They have so many flavors to satisfy a sweet tooth or salt craving with 12 grams of protein!
I also die over the think thin bars. I’ve raved about them to you guys before. They are SO good and always fill me up for a while without being too thick and heavy (like some protein bars).
+ CELERY OR CARROT STICKS
I put them in containers and keep them in my fridge like that, so in the morning I just grab them and go. I’ve always been crazy about celery because it’s so easily dip-able in nut butters or hummus and it has like nothing to it.
I also keep mini mason jars filled with a dip (hummus, vinegar, etc.) in my fridge so I can take those. The jars are super cute, that’s why I got them to be honest.. but they work perfect as an on-the-go dip container!
THESE THINGS ARE AMAZING. I put a handful in a tiny container and I’m good to go. They are bite sized and they have different flavors – also GREAT in your greek yogurt for a ‘fake ice cream’.
Those are the main snacks that I always have on me. I’ll switch it up, obviously. I keep you guys updated on snapchat. Follow along, it’s fun! I’m always spilling my new finds on there.. I love it. It really let’s me interact with you guys on a different level.
P.S. this is just a snack post – don’t forget your meals!!!
& MAJOR TIP: the containers are huge because if you are just throwing bags of snacks into your bag, you’re probably going to over indulge. Snacking can be VERY difficult to.. do lightly. I’ve become verrrrry specific with what is going in what containers and how I’m packing my snacks BECAUSE of portion control.
I also try to eat every 2 hours. So I’m really into having a packed purse with protein and tons of vitamin packed foods. What else? Any other cool snacks out there you guys are hiding?
happy snacking! x krissy
