We’re talking skin today!
I feel like after the house of preservation q&a we need to really elaborate on oils. (Stalk it for fun details, those two are amazing!)
Anyway.. I’ve always been crazy into keeping my face CLEAN.
I was VERY fortunate with my skin growing up. I never had acne problems, rarely ever broke out, didn’t have to worry about going through a bunch of doctors and medicines to fix my skin all that blah blah blah.
NOW – don’t get me wrong, I obviously had a random breakouts and sometimes still do, but I’ve just been super lucky with it all.
Like I said, I’ve always been crazy about keeping my face clean. Like.. crazy. I’m kind of a germaphobe – constantly washing my hands and cleaning everything. So keeping my face clean has just been in my routine. It comes naturally.
If I forgot makeup wipes and face wash (I always have them in my purse) I will go as far as washing my makeup off with hand soap. No lie. It will like get in my eyes and burn the shit out of them. But I can not get into bed with a face full of makeup and.. germs.
I just can’t do it. I literally use anything to get that shit off before bed HA.
AND – alongside a clean face, I love a dewy look. I’m super into the shiny, clean feel. So (duh) I figured out how to get it all at once.
I know. I know. SHOCKING.
I actually never knew this until about a year ago. I thought anything with oil in it was horrible to put on your face.
Wrong wrong wrong. So wrong. What a horrific myth (sigh sigh siiiiggghhh).
You live and you learn right?
From this article..
Oil (or sebum) is naturally occurring in the skin—your sebaceous glands are constantly pumping it out. Acne is caused when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. But topical facial oils do not exacerbate this process and can actually help balance and improve acne-prone skin. “Some studies show that five percent tea tree oil is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide at treating acne,” says Engelman. “And for post-acne treatment, rosehip seed oil combats hyperpigmentation, or dark spots, left by blemishes and black currant oil helps skin repair itself and fight inflammation.”
“You’ll often see oils like argan, grape seed, and black currant, as active ingredients in moisturizers or serums,” says Engelman. “But in an oil, you’ll find these ingredients in much higher concentration—up to 100%.” In other words, oils bring you back to the basics. They’re a purer form of what you’re probably already applying to your skin.
Oils are packed with antioxidants Vitamin C and E, which fight free radicals and help reverse sun damage. “As we age, our body’s natural oil production decreases. This can make wrinkles appear deeper and more defined. But topical oils help replenish what we’ve lost,” says Engelman.
I mean.. are you kidding me?
Who made up the ‘oil is bad for your skin’ myth? And why? COME ON.
Ok so anyway – oils are all around just the best. They make me feel so clean, glowy, and rejuvenated. & you guys know I try a lot of things. Like, a lot. I’ll buy anything just to try it.. it’s kind of weird. But I like to know what really works for me and what doesn’t. You know???
ALRIGHT. Here’s the lowdown on my face oil use:
+ jojoba oil: I have been pronouncing this wrong for a year now – but I’m overly obsessed. It’s God’s gift to our faces. It has antibacterial properties, soothes the skin, helps unclog hair follicles, and removes makeup like a work of damn art. I use it at night before bed.
+ rose cleansing oil: this has agran and jojoba oils in it. This is great for all skin types – including oily! It rips the bad oils out and reboots you with the good ones.. uh YES. It helps remove makeup, reduce wrinkles, plus provide moisture to dry skin.
Personally, I’m obsessed with these two because they remove makeup so easily. I literally pat a damp face cloth to my face that I applied jojoba oil to and it pretty much comes off just like that. No excessive rubbing. It’s magical.
I hate scrubbing my makeup off so hard I look like I just got a major sunburn and got high and got punched. You know? Just isn’t for me.
I use the jojoba oil at night and I use the rose cleansing oil in the morning. I like the dewy look the rose cleansing one gives off.
What are you guys using? Please do tell!
