I’m a sucker for a good theme – I do gifts as themes, parties as themes, everything and anything as themes. Whatever I can get my hands on that can be transformed into a theme, it’s happening. That’s that.
I’m not too sure where I got this from, or when, but I have always been super into it. My mom is a great host and this wonderful gift giver, painting snowmen on wine glasses that come out more perfect than the ones at the stores, giving them away on Christmas. A homemade gift, that’s the real deal. That’s the true meaning. I watch her do this still, every Christmas, in awe of how well she paints on an odd shaped surface, while her cookies come out of the oven fluffier than mine will ever be, filling the house of cinnamon and vanilla scent. That may be where I got this theme’d obsession from. I love having things organized and set up nicely – colors matching, vibe fitting accordingly, cake frosting tinted, balloons floating just right, drinks on their A-game, and on and on the list goes.
So, you guessed it, holiday’s are my jam. Anything that has to be color coordinated is screaming my name (very loudly). 4th of July. Man ohhhh man. 4th of July.
Theme city, right? From your nails, to your outfit, to the party decor, to the appetizers, to the fruit, to the drinks, to the glasses, to the cake, and (again) on and on the list goes. It’s the perfect holiday to totally live out your slightly (BA would leave slightly out) insanely-crazy matchy-matchy side. It’s ok to be like this, I promise. Guests will love you, just go with it.
The perfect excuse to buy that red maxi dress you’ve been eyeing. And those blue and white striped straws. And the star shaped ice cube trays. And that American flag sweatshirt. It may get cold, you just never know.
And, of course, the perfect excuse to be with the people you adore. That’s one of the many reasons I love any type of get-together – the people. And the decor. But mostly the people. And the colorful straws. I love straws. But, again.. mostly the people.
Family, friends, and a cocktail with a theme. Count me in.
Here’s one way I’m being a theme-maniac this Fourth, and I hope you join. (It’s good for the soul sometimes). My breakfast for the weekend, because now the entire weekend is theme’d. Yes, that’s how it works.
red, white and blue coconut milk pudding:
+ 1 can of coconut milk
+ 1/4 cup of chia (or flax) seeds
+ a dash of vanilla extract
+ strawberries and blueberries
Pour the coconut milk into a cute jar (find my fav’s here) and then mix in the cup of seeds you chose to use. Mix them all together, adding in the vanilla. Put it in the fridge to set for about 4 hours (I do it overnight just to be safe). Add extra strawberries and blueberries on top when done. (Add dark chocolate chips or some cacao powder for a dessert pudding!)
What are you guys doing for the fourth? Any theme ideas?
P.S. – here are some of my favorite Fourth of July essentials! Straws (of course), marble cheese plate, mini bowls (for fruit and what not), ice cube tray, red, white & blue M&M’s (duh), sampler cups (great to have for any party), chic plastic plates (is that a thing?).
